EFCC Interrogates Federal Character Commission Chairman, Moheeba Farida, Over Alleged Fraud in Abuja

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Moheeba Farida Dankaka, is currently being questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning a reported certificate scandal. The interrogation is taking place at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where Dankaka is responding to inquiries about apparent inconsistencies in various documents related to alleged forgery and false information.

The FCC Chairman had previously been scrutinised on Friday by the Nigeria Police Force regarding the same accusations. The police questioning session went on for over five hours, focusing on supposed document forgery.

The allegations originated with a petition filed in May 2023 by a civil society organisation, Youth and Leadership Initiatives. This group claimed that Dankaka had supplied falsified information to the Nigerian Presidency and National Assembly in order to secure her position as FCC chairman.

Discrepancies in the names on her various certificates led to public outcry, prompting the police to take action. Invitations for questioning were extended to Dankaka by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), involving a rigorous interrogation session that lasted for more than five hours.

A senior police officer disclosed that Dankaka was asked to bring original versions of her certificates on her next interrogation scheduled for January 17, 2024.

Ahmadu Bello University added to the intrigue by sending a letter to the commissioner of Police stating that the certificate photocopies included with Dankaka's documents did not originate from their institution.
