FG Set to Create 5 Million Jobs with New N-Power Initiative

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has announced that the Federal Government has set a target of creating five million jobs for youths over the next five years through the N-Power scheme.

Edu stated this during an interview with Channels TV, where she also revealed that the N-Power programme had been temporarily suspended. She explained that the aim of the suspension is to review and revamp the programme in order to restore confidence in it.

The decision to suspend the programme was made due to irregularities observed within the scheme. An investigation has been launched to examine how funds have been utilized and to address issues such as beneficiaries who have exited the programme but continue to receive payments, as well as beneficiaries who do not report to their places of primary assignments.

The programme, which has enrolled a total of 960,000 individuals since its inception, will undergo a thorough audit to establish the number of people owed and the total owed amounts. The audit aims to eliminate ghost beneficiaries and ensure that payments are made to those who have truly worked.

Edu also announced that the restructuring of the N-Power programme will lead to an expansion, with a target of reaching five million beneficiaries aged 18 to 40 over the next five years. The age limit for eligibility has been increased from 35 to 40.

Transparency and accountability will be prioritized in the expanded programme in order to earn the confidence of Nigerians. The government aims to put the nation on the right track and prevent suffering for its citizens.

The N-Power scheme is a federal government initiative aimed at tackling unemployment and alleviating poverty by providing job opportunities and skills development for young Nigerians.
