President Bola Tinubu has suspends Halima Shehu from her role as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).

Shortly after the approved suspension, Channels TV reported that an investigation into Ms. Shehu was initiated. Dr. Akindele Egbuwalo, the National N-Power Programme manager, was appointed as the acting NC/CEO during the ongoing investigation.

Halima Shehu received her appointment from President Tinubu in October 2023, which was subsequently confirmed by the Senate on October 18 of the same year. Prior to this, Shehu had coordinated the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme using her banking and professional expertise to digitize the system.

Before being appointed as NSIPA CEO, Shehu had served at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development from 2017 to 2022. Born in Kafin Dagi village, Katsina State, Shehu completed her primary education in the same state. She then attended Federal Government College in Kaduna State where she acquired her West African Examination Certificate.

Shehu started her political career in 2010, after which she was first appointed in 2011 as a Senior Special Assistant to the then governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema. Shehu also contributed to the state’s Internal Revenue Board as a member. In 2016, her career led her to the Economic Community of West African Countries, where she held the temporary position of a presidential election observer in Cape Verde.
