Kano In Crisis: Villagers Abducted As Banditry Rises

Unconfirmed reports suggest that an unknown number of villagers have been abducted and several others are feared dead in Yola village within the Karaye Local Government Area of Kano State. These incidents occurred after a series of attacks by bandits on the village.

A resident, who chose to remain anonymous, stated that the attacks took place on different occasions on Saturday. The exact number of people abducted or killed could not be confirmed. According to the resident, four people were abducted and two were killed in the first attack, while two people were abducted and one was killed in the second attack. The resident called for the establishment of army posts in Karaye to address the ongoing attacks.

The Karaye and Rogo local governments have been experiencing serious security threats recently due to their proximity to Katsina and Kaduna states. In April 2023, bandits kidnapped a well-known businessman named Alhaji Nasiru Na'ayya in Gangarbi Village, Rogo LGA, and killed one person.

Furthermore, the Karaye Emirate had previously raised concerns about the influx of illegal miners from Zamfara state and had implemented measures to address the issue. These measures included the registration of migrants within the emirate.

Attempts to contact the Kano State Police Command's DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls.
