NDLEA Raids Ogun and Edo Forests to Combat Drug Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recently announced that they have arrested a 67-year-old suspect and destroyed over 11 tonnes of cannabis in the Forest reserves of Ogun and Edo States in Nigeria. This significant move is a step towards the proactive fight against illegal drugs in the country.

NDLEA Raids Ogun and Edo Forests to Combat Drug Trafficking

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 67-year-old drug trafficker named Chukwuemeka Clement at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. He was found to have ingested 100 wraps of cocaine. Clement confessed to getting involved in drug trafficking in order to raise money to marry a new wife and start a new life after spending 30 years in Brazil, Ethiopia, and Thailand.

In addition to Clement's arrest, NDLEA operatives also apprehended a woman at Kano airport who was bound for Saudi Arabia. She was found with 52 pellets of cocaine. The NDLEA also destroyed over 11 tonnes of cannabis in forests in Ogun and Edo states.

The NDLEA made these arrests and seizures known through a statement released by its Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi. It was shared on their Facebook page on Sunday.

The statement revealed that Bilkisu Mohammed Bello, the Saudi-bound woman, confessed to having been given pellets of cocaine to swallow before her flight. She led NDLEA officers to a house in Kano where 52 wraps of the illegal substance were recovered.

Furthermore, the NDLEA operatives, along with the Nigerian Army, Civil Defence Corps, and Amotekun personnel, successfully located and destroyed 10.38 tonnes of cannabis sativa in James town, Ogun state. They also intercepted a truck carrying a 40ft container loaded with logs of wood and found two bags of cannabis sativa weighing 20kgs inside. Six suspects were arrested in connection with this seizure.

Other operations conducted by the agency included a raid on Obi camp in Owan West LGA, Edo state where 30 sacks of skunk weighing 300kgs were discovered and seized. In addition, two cannabis farms in Orhiowon local government area of Edo state were identified and destroyed, resulting in the arrest of four suspects.

In Gombe state, a suspect named Auwal Bindow was arrested with 50,000 capsules of tramadol, a prescription medication. And in Oyo state, NDLEA operatives apprehended Anuoluwapo Blessing Iyanu with 52 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa weighing 30kgs.

These operations are part of the NDLEA's efforts to combat drug trafficking and keep illegal drugs off the streets of Nigeria.
